Auto Reverse im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Car Culture“ im ZKM Karlsruhe bis 8. Januar 2011
Auto Reverse
Kay Michalak, Sven Voelker
2011
The reverse side of the automobile is an unknown place. That might have to do with the simple fact that cars unlike other products of our daily lives are not being turned upside down that often. And this is maybe why that side of the car could keep its industrial aesthetic for such a long time and is not designed at all (or along other criterias).
„Auto Reverse“ is a photographic research project that explores this dark surface that is not being formed by large design teams according to brand and corporate strategies. Kay Michalak and Sven Voelker have produced a series of large photographs. They surprise not only through the engineering aesthetics and the many variations but also through the great contrast to the polished and
well-kept upper side.
